Where does yarn come from?
In my Farm Fiber Workshop: From Fleece to Thread, children get to discover the answer with their own hands.
In this small, hands-on class, kids will follow the journey of wool from sheep to fiber to thread. We'll start with raw fleece, learn how it's skirted and washed and then explore clean, prepared fiber that's ready to be worked.
They will compare different kinds of fiber, including a variety of wool, alpaca, silk and even sparkle. They'll learn how fiber is hand and drum carded, and each child will get a turn trying the tools and helping create a colorful art batt.
We'll sit down together to make a grapevine bird nesting ball ornament for our outdoor friends along with wool from the group made art batt to take home. We will finish with a spinning demo - and let each child try turning fiber into yarn.
This workshop isn't about speed or perfection. It's about process, curiosity and transformation - and about helping children experience where real materials come from.
